Creative Holiday Gift Ideas: Easter Basket Jars

DIY Easter Basket Jars on http://www.theculinarylife.com

It’s Easter time, so it’s time to start thinking about Easter Basket ideas! If you’re looking for something fun and not the same-old-Easter basket that everyone else is making, check out these crafty DIY jar baskets. You can make them up in 5 minutes or less, or you could easily make 50 in a few hours if you’re looking to hand them out to a few dozen kids. The best thing is that the candy stay sealed inside, keeping it fresh – and keeping it mess-free until the lid if popped off by little fingers! This is by far the easier Easter basket idea I’ve ever seen. And since the candy stays fresh, you can make them weeks ahead of time.

Easy DIY Easter Basket Idea: Jars

Instant DIY Easter baskets. All you need is a Mason jar, fabric, and candy. These quick, crafty jars are a unique twist on Easter baskets. Great for giving out to kids at a party, since the jars are sealed and keep candy inside, where it belongs. No mess!

Ingredients

  • Easter M&Ms
  • Jelly beans
  • Other spring-colored candy (about 3 pounds of candy total)
  • Four 16-ounce Mason jars with lids and screw-on bands
  • 4 6 x 6-inch squares of colorful fabric
  • 24 Peeps

Instructions

  • Wash jars and lids, then dry completely. Wet jars = melted candy.
  • Fill each jar with a 1- to 2-inch layer of M&Ms, jelly beans, and other candies. Feel free to layer them in to create layers of color, similar to layers of sand in sand jars.
  • Insert six Peeps into each jar, making sure to situation them so that they're pushed up against the side of the jars, facing out.
  • Fill the rest of the jar with candy, packing well so that the layers and Peeps are held in place. The goal here is to pack the jars so that the candy stays in place - at least until little fingers remove the lid. :)
  • For each jar, set the flat lid on top of the jar. Place a square of fabric over the lid, and then screw on the threaded band over the fabric. You may need to poke and prod the fabric to keep it from bunching up while you screw on the band; bunched fabric will get caught in the threads and keep it from sealing.
  • Keep jars in a cool, dark place for storage.
